HotSale Mexico 2016 Hits Record Sales

The latest HotSale in Mexico generated record sales.

Figures from the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO) show that sales during the special promotional period grew by almost 200%.

The period lasted from 30 May to 2 June and overall sales climbed by 196%, reaching a value of more than one billion Mexican pesos. Over 1.6 million individual items were sold and the number of total website hits numbered over 41 million (twice the number recorded in 2015). There was some 1.7 million new users, which was three times more than last time. The average sale was $3.113 Mexican pesos (MXN) and 75% of those who made a purchase, made more than one.

This was the third time that HotSale had taken place and 176 companies took part, over 30% more than last time. Feedback from buyers suggested that 86% of them felt safe when buying online during the sale.

Participating companies included Amazon.com.mx, Banamex, CyberPuerta, eBay, HEB, The World, Best Day, GAIA, Petsy, Free Market, Soriana, Hoteles.com, Linio and Walmart.

President of AMVO Eric Perez-Grovas said that there had been a “…positive shopping experience and 21% held for the first time purchase over the Internet. Among the reasons that prompted buyers online realize their purchase during the campaign were the large selection of brands and products available; 24/7 access to online stores from any device connected to Internet, and that each transaction was backed by security protocols and verification.”

As for which category was the most popular during the sales, electronics came first (35%), followed by travel (22%), and clothing and footwear (11%) and furniture (5%).
